Come to St. John’s, Newfoundland, for the 115th National Annual Meeting 27-31 May 2015. Meetings will take place at The Holiday Inn, St. John's and the hotel will honour the IODE conference rate before and after the conference. Come early and/or stay late and enjoy the warm hospitality of Newfoundland.
Your officers are busy preparing an exciting program including guest speakers. The theme of our meeting is Be the Change and your National Officers are planning plenary sessions, educational and networking opportunities for all members. Attendees convene to conduct IODE business, attend workshops, witness award ceremonies and reconnect with friends. Remember to bring your costume for the Newfie Kitchen Party. Invite members in your chapter who have never attended a National Annual Meeting to join you. It is an experience they will truly enjoy while learning about IODE and making friends from across the country. See you there! |

Newfie Kitchen Party
Friday 29 May Come to the National Annual Meeting prepared for a great time at a traditional Newfie Kitchen Party in Conception Bay South. Come in costume as a "mummer". Mummering is a centuries-old tradition that takes place over the 12 days of Christmas in the outports of Newfoundland. It involves dressing up in interesting (to say the least!) disguises, going visiting and getting up to a bit of mischief. Go online to view videos and get costume ideas. You may also dress casually.

Saturday 30 May Special Guest Speaker Janet McNaughton 2012 Winner of the IODE Violet Downey Book Award Dragon Seer's Gift Janet McNaughton, two-time winner of the IODE Violet Downey Book Award, calls St. John’s home. We are pleased to announce that she will be our guest speaker at NAM 2015. Janet will tell us how two of her books, Dragon Seer’s Gift and Flame and Ashes: The Great Fire Diary of Triffie Winsor, are about St. John’s and how the books fit into the city’s history and neighbourhoods. Once again, we are participating in Share a Story… Bring a Book. Please pack a book or two to thank our hosts in Newfoundland! In 2014, the Share a Story…Bring a Book campaign was an outstanding success, one we hope can be repeated. This is our 5th consecutive year for this initiative at NAM and each year it has continued to grow. The age group we are targeting this year is 0 – 6 years. For book ideas, see IODE Ontario website and the IODE Jean Throop Book Award winners or consider past winners of the IODE Violet Downey Book Award. Have fun browsing the book stores and bring your book(s) to St. John’s, Newfoundland, in May. Book donations can also be sent to IODE Canada.
