Annual Meeting Registration required prior to 26 April to allow for Zoom invitation emails to be sent. |
IODE members were to gather in Nova Scotia for the 2020 annual meeting. Despite the cooperation of the Membertou Conference Centre where the meetings were to be held, and IODE Nova Scotia who had many plans to welcome members from across Canada, the pandemic caused the need to first postpone and then cancel this event. To recognize and acknowledge the patience and support received from these two groups, members will have a chance at this meeting to hear the guest speakers originally planned when the meeting was to be in Nova Scotia.
Pjila’si, Cíad Míle Fáilte, Bienvenue - welcome to a place loved by many and home to a lucky few.
As we cannot travel to the location of our 121st National Annual Meeting in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, we thought we would bring a bit of of the island vibe to you.
Cape Bretoners make every situation more interesting, whether it's because of their awesome Newfie-sounding accents or their crazy kitchen parties, Nova Scotia would be nothing without them. Cape Breton is known around the world for it's celtic culture, beautiful scenery and the great Cabot Trail, but what a lot of people don't know is that it's home to some of the nicest people on the planet.

Discover Seven Ways To Time Travel at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site! The fortress and town were partially reconstructed in the 1960s and 1970s, using some of the original stonework, which provided jobs for unemployed coal miners. The site is operated by Parks Canada as a living history museum. The site stands as the largest reconstruction project in North America

So what are the main reasons people attend the National Annual Meeting?
Vertical Divider
|
A big reason for going is to meet with likeminded women, the National Officers and Convenors. We attend to hear reports of the departments and to gain knowledge that we take back to share with our chapter members.
Destination meetings bring people together from all different geographical areas who share a common interest and are a great way to meet new IODE friends. |
The 121st National Annual Meeting will be Virtual this year
Vertical Divider

2020 rapidly became the year of the virtual meetings and virtual meetings are not going anywhere very soon.
This is a good thing: in terms of savings, environmental footprint, accessibility and of course, immunity against external factors. Virtual meetings allow you to attend from the comfort and safety of your home or office – this means a much more relaxed environment. You do not need to walk around the venue to find the room for each session or even the restroom; you can sit on your couch or your own office and just enjoy the presentations. This means less stress, less tiredness, and more energy to dedicate to staying focused on the content that matters to you. You can join our online meeting from anywhere - all you need is your device and an Internet connection. No computer, no problem – you can call in. We may not be able to see each other; nevertheless we can still hear each other. There will telephone numbers with Canadian Area Codes on the email invitation to the Zoom Meeting. Long Distance fees will be charged based on the rates of your telephone service provider. This year IODE Canada will be doing things differently. We are re-imagining our live events and taking our entire programme online. That will include the presenting of the annual reports that highlights all the good-works from coast to coast to coast, guest speakers, meeting IODE award recipients and more. |

National Youth Orchestra Canada The 2020 NYO Canada orchestra is pleased to present their rendition of Matthew Emery’s “Lead Us Home,” commissioned by NYO in 2018. It’s an NYO tradition to end with a song, and we wanted this year to be no different, this piece typically sung by the orchestra SATB as an encore during the tour, has transformed in the past two years into the anthem of NYO Canada beloved by the musicians who premiered it and the many audience members who heard it. This is a favourite of ours and we hope that you enjoy it. |
The National Theatre School of Canada Caitlin Farley (Production Design and Technical Arts, 3rd year, Wetaskiwin, AB) explains how her new role as Livestream Director will prepare her for a post-pandemic theatre scene. |
Canada's National Ballet School What does it take to make it as a 13-year-old ballerina? Lilia Greyeyes's day starts bright and early at Canada's National Ballet School. After a full set of courses, she heads straight to ballet class for another round of practice. But this is nothing new to the young student - she's been dancing since she was only two years old. Clearly, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree: Lilia Greyeyes is the daughter of famed Canadian actor, director and choreographer Michael Greyeyes. He is also a Canada's National Ballet School alumnus. Lilia's mother, Nancy Greyeyes, is an award-winning dancer who is worked with ballets in Canada and the United States. |
