Corporal Kam Tim Law
The winner of the 2007 IODE (RCMP) Community Relations Awards is Cpl. Kam Tim Law. Cpl. Law was appointed as the Commanding Officer of British Columbia Regiment 2381 Cadets Corp in 2004. Upon his appointment as Commanding Officer, Cpl. Law immediately displayed his outstanding administrative and community relations skills by organizing an effective enhanced cadet training program, engaging a dedicated support staff and forming a parent support committee. Through his outstanding leadership abilities, dedication to youth and enthusiasm for the Cadet Corps, the strength of the British Columbia Regiment 2381 increased from under thirty Cadets to over fifty. During his second year, as the Commanding Officer, Cpl. Law utilized the media, parental groups, school system, Community Block Watch Program and the Chinese Federation of Commerce to raise funds and increase community awareness and enrolment with the Cadet Corps. More than $15,000 was raised for cadet training, while increasing membership to over one hundred. During his third year Cpl. Law has continued to expand the recruiting and training program. British Columbia Regiment 2381 is one of the largest in Canada with over one hundred and fifty youth under his command. Additionally, contributions to the Cadet Corps have again greatly increased through the hard work and dedication of Cpl. Law and many supporters. The Cadet Corps have raised over $68,000 in funding. The National Chapter of Canada IODE is honoured to present this award to Cpl. Law in recognition of his exemplary public service to his community outside of his official duties.
