IODE women are Interested, Organized, Determined and Enthusiastic.

IODE members feel needed and valued. Welcome! As a member, you will get a chance to become more involved in your community.

IODE women have FUN!  Long-time IODE members agree that involvement is key to getting the most out of membership. The chapter is where most of IODE members’ meaningful service work is carried out.  

IODE gives back to communities through education, social service and citizenship programs with a special emphasis on children and literacy. 
 
IODE offers a sense of purpose because one person can make a difference in someone’s life with just a few hours a month as you work with other women to meet needs in your community. What IODE members’ get out of IODE depends largely on what they put into it.

IODE needs your gifts of time and talent.   You can serve others through your vocation and exercise high principles.

IODE experience allows you to develop new skills and abilities and attain valuable experience for employment. 

IODE members are encouraged to volunteer for leadership roles at the chapter level and beyond.

IODE will give you new friends in your community and across Canada.

As I travelled across Canada meeting with members, I repeatedly quoted Maya Angelou, who understands the motivation that drives the kind of women who are IODE. She wrote: "To make a difference is not a matter of accident, a matter of casual occurrence of the tides. People choose to make a difference." As IODE members, we all do.

Two essential elements of IODE have impressed me over time: members and programs. I joined IODE as my mother and grandmother had done before me. As I joined my primary chapter, IODE Kathleen Drope, I was initially drawn by the warm, concerned, committed members and worthwhile programs I could see at work in our local community. I know that this is an experience on joining that many of us share and it's what we continue to appreciate about our membership in IODE. Through my primary chapter as I began to experience the larger IODE community and program focus, I recognized that the whole of IODE was much larger than the sum of its parts. Together members in diverse parts of the country make a significant difference quickly in times of need.

When I worked with IODE Toronto Municipal as Education Officer, I was again welcomed by women of impressive camaraderie and commitment whose program orientation met wider community needs in services, education and citizenship. The same level of dedication and friendship held true during my term with the IODE Children's Hospital at North York General Hospital. On joining the National Officers, initially as Echoes Officer, I was not at all surprised to find myself once again knee deep in inspiring women, each freely volunteering her time and talents to serve and support not just IODE programs but also members."
