What inspired you to join IODE?
Having worked in a male-dominated career, I was looking for female companionship. As well, other organizations had many restrictions that did not fit my lifestyle - need to attend meetings, etc. In IODE I can contribute as little, or as much, as I wish. IODE knows what to do with the things I can contribute. I love the work we do in the North, in scholarships and especially citizenship. I love our country and am very proud of what IODE does in the citizenship area. Also, we do not have just one focus. We have something for every interest.
What are some of the best memories you have as a Member of IODE?
Becoming friends with these wonderful women is such a treasure. It has been very humbling to receive my Primary and Provincial Life Memberships as well as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal. Hearing reports of the amazing work our members do to help others is very inspiring. I love attending Provincial and National Annual Meetings to meet our fantastic members from across our great land. Our nights of fun really help us get to know each other.
Bonnie commented "I joined IODE originally having been invited to attend a junior chapter meeting by a casual friend at high school. I was amazed that a group of teenagers conducted meetings in a professional manner, organized fundraising and participated in the jurisdictional levels of the organization. As an adult, I looked at all the major service clubs before settling on IODE. It is one of the best decisions I have made in my life."
To Bonnie we say a sincere "thank you" for your many contributions to IODE and for sharing your story with us.
