What inspired you to join IODE?
My maternal Grandmother "Miss Ora White" joined the IODE in London ON shortly after it was founded. She was regent of the Sir George Ross Chapter in London in 1918 when she was given a Life membership in the Municipal Chapter of London Canada. At 22 years of age she had just returned from England where she worked as an ambulance driver and nurse at a military hospital. In November 2003, a member invited me to come to a Stokes chapter meeting and I joined that night. My first annual dues were paid in 2004.
What are some of the best memories you have as a Member of IODE?
Some of my best memories of IODE are of the fundraising efforts in our Chapter. Annually we make apple pies and butter tarts. It is a great team effort and we always have fun working together. I also enjoyed presenting education awards as Education Officer...it was encouraging to see so many young people active in their community and also strong academically. Recently 5 members of our chapter traveled to Hamilton ON and assisted in the packing of boxes for the northern communities. It was amazing to see the quantity of goods that our organization provides to communities in need.
