“I had the distinct honour to represent IODE Canada at the 94th Annual Meeting of IODE Ottawa Municipal Chapter held at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, Gatineau, Quebec on Saturday, 06 April 2013. Members from the five Ottawa chapters and two members from Captain Hooper Chapter of Carleton Place were in attendance.
Jo Brodie, President of the chapter, welcomed those in attendance to the luncheon. Past Municipal President, Charlene Sibbitt, presented Grace and Remembrance, followed by a Toast to the Her Majesty the Queen by Standard Bearer Joan Drummond.
During lunch, special guests, life members, outgoing and incoming primary chapter presidents were introduced. Members tested their Canadian knowledge with a trivia quiz prepared by Valerie Blais of IODE Laurentian Chapter. As the guest speaker following lunch, Valerie led us through a most interesting PowerPoint presentation, A History of IODE.
The 80th Anniversary Scholarship was presented to Julia Dales, who spoke of the honour and delight of receiving this award. The Community Relations Award was presented to Paul Morneau, Ottawa Paramedic Services, who was accompanied by his mother, Barbara, and Deputy Chief of Operations Kevin Newell, who spoke eloquently of Paul’s volunteer service since he was in high school.
Following a brief recess, Jo called the 94th Municipal Annual Meeting to order. I was honoured to bring greetings on behalf of IODE Canada, to speak on the importance of Municipal chapters, and to invite members to attend the 113th National Annual Meeting in Calgary.
Renate Schuetz, 1st Vice President of IODE Ontario, brought greetings from IODE Ontario President, Karen Barker. Members were extended an invitation to attend the Provincial Annual Meeting at the J.W. Marriott Lake Rosseau, on 20 April.
Following the reading of reports and the business portion of the meeting, I had the honour to install Jo Brodie as President, and a full slate of Municipal Officers.
I thank the NEC for the privilege of representing IODE Canada at IODE Ottawa Municipal Chapter’s 94th Annual Meeting.”
