On Remembrance Day, I will join with thousands in Ottawa to lay a wreath at the National War Memorial on behalf of IODE Canada and pay tribute at the eleventh hour in memory of the men and women who served our nation and sacrificed their lives in military service during the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, the Afghanistan conflict and peacekeeping missions.
I will then place a poppy on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and pause in reflection to honour the sacrifice made by our Canadian forces and their families.
The Ode of Remembrance
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.
