Following the singing of O Canada, the meeting was opened for the transaction of business. As guest speaker, I brought greetings from IODE Canada, and then presented Making Connections. Following my speech, I took questions from those in attendance. One of the discussions was around social media, Facebook and YouTube. IODE Laura Gordon members Lana Champis, daughter of Noreen Gullacher, and Louise Horler, told me that they might visit chapters, if invited, to train fellow members on how to use Facebook and possibly do this as a fundraiser. I was so pleased to have talked with these two young women, with their wonderful enthusiasm and willingness to share their ideas.
The annual meeting continued with approval of the minutes and the Treasurer’s report for 2011. It was announced that Kelowna would be the location of the 100th Annual Meeting of IODE BC from 12 to 14 April 2013.
Following lunch, the nomination of Zone Councillors for fifteen positions on the Provincial Executive Committee took place. IODE Gary Oaks Chapter volunteered to host the next Zone meeting in Victoria, and Dixie was elected to another term as Zone Chair.
Primary chapters were about to give their reports, but unfortunately, I was unable to stay to hear them as I had to leave to catch a ferry to the mainland to begin a four day drive to Toronto through the United States, the quickest route.
I was so pleased to have had the opportunity to visit with IODE members on Vancouver Island, and thank President Elizabeth and Zone Chair Dixie for arranging my visit, and thank all member of the Island Zone for welcoming with their warm, western hospitality.
