At the invitation of IODE Ontario’s Northern Area Vice-President Laura Nichols, we toured the O.P.P. Communications Centre, where Laura works. She introduced us to Inspector Guy Faucher and his staff, and then took us on a tour of the facility, including the call centre that serves a very large area of Ontario. We learned of the range of telecommunications services that the Centre administers, including 911 calls, which are forwarded to the appropriate location for immediate action.
On Tuesday morning, Karen and I met with 34 members from IODE Alexander Ramsey, Dr. Herbert A. Bruce, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Manitou Chapters for a luncheon at the Best Western Hotel and Conference Centre. I was very pleased to meet IODE Manitou member Daphne Mayne, mother of National Public Relations Officer Laurel Mayne.
Following luncheon, I was introduced by Laura and gave the Making Connections presentation. Karen then invited members to IODE Ontario’s 2013 Provincial Annual Meeting to be held 19 and 20 April at The Rosseau J.W. Marriott Hotel in the Muskoka area, and showed a PowerPoint presentation of this beautiful venue.
I then visited members at their tables to distribute invitation cards with a request that each member ask one woman to join our organization. After collecting the pledge forms and maple leaves with messages of why members love IODE, we left North Bay for home.
I thank IODE Ontario President Karen Barker and Northern Area Vice-President Laura Nichols for this opportunity to attend North Bay where I made connections with members from Sudbury, Haileybury and North Bay.
