They Never Came Back
IODE Canada Donates $1000 to
Lethbridge High School Student
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
08 April 2008
On Friday, 11 April 2008, IODE Canada will recognize the initiative of Brett Clifton, a Grade 12 student from Lethbridge, AB, by presenting him with an award of $1000 for his research to preserve the memory of Canadian soldiers who did not come back from World War I. The presentation will take place at IODE Alberta’s Provincial Annual Meeting to be held at the Banff Park Lodge Hotel, Banff, AB, at 7:00 p.m.
Brett developed this project to honour the 262 soldiers of Lethbridge following his moving experience as a representative attending the re-dedication of the Vimy Ridge Memorial. He decided to compile biographies of these soldiers, investigated their war records, found and talked to their families, obtained photographs, and determined where they were buried, etc. He intends to publish this information on a Web Site and produce files for the Galt Museum in Lethbridge.
To date, Brett has completed research on 19 soldiers, which he has financed himself with an after school job. Brett estimates that the They Never Came Back project will cost about $9000.
On Saturday morning, 12 April 2008, at 10:00 a.m., Brett will give a power point presentation and talk about his project.
IODE Canada honours the initiative, originality, ambition and enthusiasm of Brett Clifton.
