2012 Slave Lake Children's Library Project
On 16 May 2011, whole neighbourhoods were flattened by a devastating wildfire in Slave Lake, Alberta.. The wildfire swept through the town of 7,000 destroying upwards of 40% of the buildings. $5,000 was donated from the IODE Canadian Disaster Fund to help refurnish the children’s section of the Slave Lake Public Library.
"I am pleased to be able to send you pictures of some of the kids furnishings that have been purchased with the funds from the IODE. The small boxes are called Kinderboxes and have been very popular since they were set up and filled with books. The little folks with the short legs can get right down to them and the bright colours seem to attract the kids. The zig-zag units (for the lack of a better name!) were just put together on Monday and reports from the library staff say that comments have been very positive. Unfortunately the colours don't show up as brightly in the photo as they actually are."
