Since 2011, the Share a Story... Bring a Book project has been a cherished tradition at Annual Meetings. Members generously donate children's books and funds, always benefiting a community resource centre.

This year, the Share a Story... Bring a Book project supported Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness in London, ON (www.Vanier.com).

Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness provides essential support to children aged 0-18 facing challenges such as depression, self-harm, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, substance abuse, and behavioral difficulties.

As the Mental Health Foundation states: "Good mental health helps children develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them and grow into well-rounded, healthy adults."

Celebrating Our Past Chat - A Look at 125 years of Remarkable IODE Accomplishments.

Ontario Provincial Archivist, Helen Danby took us on a fascinating journey through history as she shares highlights from her research and provincial submissions.

Did you know that…

• During WWI, IODE chapters in British Columbia used their fruit harvests to make 7 tons of homemade jam, shipped in four-pound tins to troops overseas? What a sweet treat!
• During WWII, New Brunswick IODE chapters helped fund the purchase of a second Spitfire in honor of Lord Beaverbrook.
• In 1940, IODE chapters across Canada raised an astounding $100,000 in just one month to purchase a Bolingbroke bomber at the request of the Canadian government.

Embracing Our Future Chat – M.I.understanding
Paula Jesty, Founder of M.I.understanding is our guest speaker for this engaging presentation. Paula will introduce this innovative, interactive program designed to support families navigating children’s mental health challenges. Through videos, discussions and the guidance of “Poppy”, families gain tools and strategies to work together in addressing the growing needs of youth.

The session explored key topics, including:

• Why now? Understanding the urgency of mental health support
• Resources & Barriers – What’s available and what’s in the way
• What do we know? Insights into children's mental health today
• What can IODE do? How we can make a difference.

Embracing Our Future Chat ... Are We Listening?
Continuing IODE’s principle of ASK. LISTEN. ACT., the discussion emphasized the importance of LISTENING. Reflect on the question: Are We Listening?

The group explored:

• HOW do we listen? Do we approach listening with an open mind? Are we setting aside our own expectations and ideas? Understanding the difference and why it matters in our work.
• WHO do we listen to? Effective listening - both internally and externally - is a vital tool in the work we do.
• WHY do we listen? Are we truly addressing the most pressing needs? Are our efforts making a meaningful impact on people's lives?
