Save the Dates! 26 - 27 May 2016
Toronto has been described as “New York City run by the Swiss". You will find world class theatre, shopping and restaurants but the sidewalks are clean and the people are friendly.” Take the opportunity to spend the weekend in this vibrant city following our NAM. Toronto is a city of neighbourhoods, a city of ravines, a city of parks, a city of non-stop activity.
Begin your stay at the century old Old Mill Toronto, a 4-star English style inn, restaurant and spa. Nestled in the beautiful Humber Valley and adjacent to the parkland and bike and walking trail system, enjoy all the amenities of their day spa or their customary English Tea. Your officers are busy preparing an exciting program including guest speakers. The theme of our meeting this year is Winning Ways and your National Officers are planning plenary sessions, educational and networking opportunities for all members. Attendees convene to conduct IODE business, attend workshops, witness award ceremonies and reconnect with friends. Invite members in your chapter who have never attended a National Annual Meeting to join you. It is an experience they will truly enjoy while learning about IODE and making friends from across the country. See you there! |
New this year, all members are welcome to join us at open meetings of the National Advisory Council and the War Memorial Committee. Learn the workings of these committees from the inside and enjoy the in-depth discussions and deliberations on topics including IODE’s part in Canada’s 150th celebrations in 2017. Registration for this day includes a continental breakfast, coffee breaks and the Old Mill’s renowned buffet lunch.
Thursday evening, join us for a wonderful meal at the Famous People Players performance of Rock and Roll with Great Balls of Fire. This non-profit organization features black light puppetry and employs actors with special needs. On Friday, the Corporate Annual Meeting will be held at the century old Lambton Golf and Country Club. The morning session will include the reception of the annual reports, financial statements, budget and appointment of auditors. Membership Awards and other items complete the morning. Enjoy the reception prior to the gala luncheon to renew acquaintances and meet special guests. Formal ceremonies will begin in the afternoon. Winners of the IODE Violet Downey Book Award and the IODE RCMP Community Service Award will highlight the proceedings. The installation of the IODE Canada Board of Directors concludes the meeting. Once again, we are participating in Share a Story… Bring a Book. Please pack a book or two to thank our hosts in Toronto! The Share a Story…Bring a Book campaign has been an outstanding success, one we hope can be repeated. This is our 7th consecutive year for this initiative at NAM and each year it has continued to grow. The age group we are targeting this year is 0 – 6 years. For book ideas, consider donating books that have received the IODE Jean Throop Book Award or consider past winners of the IODE Violet Downey Book Award. Have fun browsing the book stores and bring your books to Toronto in May. Book donations can also be sent directly to IODE Canada. |
