IODE RCMP Community Service Award Recipient for 2021
IODE Canada, on behalf of its members, established an award to recognize a member, unit or detachment of the RCMP for exemplary public service to their community outside of their official duties. Each year, the office of the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police chooses the recipient. This award has been presented since 1992. |
Constable Gordon Nowicki
RCMP E Division, Nanaimo, British Columbia Constable Nowicki has been working with the Nanaimo Detachment and community since the fall of 2011, raising the profile of the RCMP through his volunteer work. He regularly volunteers with the Nanaimo Minor Hockey League as a coach, score keeper, music director and safety advisor, as well as with the City of Nanaimo Youth Leadership programs.
Constable Nowicki’s presentations address leadership, being a good teammate, good sportsmanship, being in the public eye, decision making and making smart choices. In addition, Constable Nowicki work with Special Olympics Nanaimo, assisting with presentations and participating in special events. He is involved with the Community Living British Columbia – Nanaimo Association For Community Living home share program in which a special needs client lives full time with a volunteer family. Constable Nowicki also provides respite care over the weekends for adults with special needs or disabilities. All of this is outside the scope of his regular duties. |
He continues to demonstrate an on-going commitment to excellence in the community and within the RCMP and significantly contributes to the quality of life for all. The members of The National Chapter of Canada IODE, assembled for their virtual 121st Annual Meeting, were honoured to present the 2021 The National Chapter of Canada RCMP Community Service Award to RCMP Constable Gordon Nowicki.
